WHAT RIGHT-WINGERS TALK ABOUT WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT FREEDOM TO CHOOSE

I'm not going to weigh in on the ad from a pro-Obama super PAC that blames Mitt Romney and Bain Capital for the cancer death of the wife of Joe Soptic, a GST Steel employee until Bain bought the company. However, I do want to direct your attention to this line in a post critical of the ad by Jim Hoft of Gateway Pundit:
More... Soptic chose not to insure wife at post-GST job.
Click on that link and you get a Free Republic excerpt from a Wall Street Journal article about the ad.

So, when Hoft says Soptic "chose not to insure" his wife, what does that mean? Here's what it means, according to the Journal:
Mr. Soptic said that after he lost his job, he found work as a school custodian about six months later and had the option to put her on his insurance plan. But he opted not to, he said, because he could not afford the more than $350 monthly premium on the $25,000 salary he was making, on top of paying his mortgage and a daughter's college tuition.
That, to a right-winger, is a "choice" to forgo health insurance -- presumably no different from the choice of chocolate over vanilla at an ice-cream parlor.

That's how right-wingers think. That's why they're a menace to the well-being of ordinary Americans.

His daughter should have left college and gotten a job.

And the family could have moved out of the mortaged house, and built a lean-to in some friend or family members property.

They could have lived off the land, for food.

Then they could have paid for the woman's health insurance.

Hey, it was good enough for the pioneers!

Or, maybe they should have chosen to be richer, instead of moochers.

Yeah, but their Social Darwinism is but a subset of the ways in which they're a menace. E.g., their alpha-male gone wild foreign policy notions, their ideas about the rights available to non-whites, non-Christians, non-males. And their denial of reality which is corrupting our media and our educational system as well as making it impossible to do anything about the global environmental disaster.

I really do embrace Gandhian principles of non-violence. But, if a self-defense allowance is made, the whole principle goes out the window, because . . . REPUBLICAN.

I said you weren't welcome here, Griffith, and I meant it.

Joe Griffith,
One, I hope that YOU never have to make that conscious decision like this man did.

And, two, was the inmate handed a death sentence at his/her trial? Because, in many cases, a kidney problem requiring a transpant IS a death sentence - although a slower one.
I can maybe see your "point" if that person is on Death Row.

So, where's the line?
What illnesses are prisoners treated for, and what aren't?
And who decides?
Prison 'Death Panels?'

Slippery-slope time.

We're either a society that punishes "undeserving" people at all costs (which is where we've been heading for years), or find it in our hearts to try to understand and care for people. ALL of them - the sainted, and the wicked.

Me?
I'd rather an inmate get a kidney transplant than to slowly die from kidney failure. Ok, maybe not ahead of St. Francis of Assisi, or Albert's Einstein and Schweitzer...

Also, do we deny that prisoner any dialysis treatments?
They're pretty expensive.
And time consuming, too! The time spent in dialysis is time not spent reflecting on ones crimes in ones cell, or in some job at the prison.

This enquiring mind wants to know...

Then I will.

The ad opposes the conservative position on ACA, Medicare, Medicaid, the CHIP propram, and other government efforts to provide health care to the non-rich.

It's a great ad, and richly deserved.

Romney is the front man for the party whose health care slogan is "Let them die!"

Only fair to point out that they are not kidding and people do really die.

And, yes, it's fair to blame Romney personally for those deaths.

It's fair to blame anyone personally who personally supports policies that, at root, have that same intention.

"Let them die!"

Marie Antoinette was a girl scout, compared to these modern conservatives.
